Volunteering South Africa Zululand – Tim
During my four weeks (20.02. - 20.03.23) as a wildlife conservation volunteer in Zululand, I spent the first two weeks in Tembe Elephant Park and second two weeks in Manyoni Private Game Reserve.
The preparation of the trip by Natucate was really great, I felt well-prepared at all times and excellently looked after.
On site in South Africa, I met many great people and was able to learn a thing or two about life there. Our small group harmonized really well, and it was also great fun working with the staff. Because of them, the 4am wake-up for the first session of the day was much more bearable than anticipated 😉.

It was an incredibly beautiful time with countless animal sightings. To experience the wildlife and landscape of Africa in this intensity as a volunteer is a unique experience.
Some of the main highlights for me were the sighting of a leopard for a few seconds at night on the way back to camp, the wild dog pack in Manyoni as well as three spotted hyenas on the road in the early morning. We were also able to observe a vulture feast in Manyoni, with about 100 white-backed vultures, four eared vultures and two capped vultures. For me as a vulture fan, this was perhaps the greatest experience of the four-week trip! Beyond that, there were so many other sightings, such as cheetahs, lions, rhinos, elephants, and various bird species…it is impossible to list them all!
I am very grateful for all the sightings, encounters, and experiences that filled my four weeks in Zululand. I would repeat this trip anytime and I will certainly travel to Africa with Natucate again!
