Location
Chinzombo is located in the heart of Zambia's South Luangwa National Park, directly on the western bank of the Luangwa River in a bush landscape.
The Camp
Guest accommodation
Guests in Chinzombo are accommodated in one of six luxurious villas, one of which serves as a family villa. These are arranged around the c-shaped course of the Luangwa River and have their own fully equipped bathroom, lounge, terrace and private small pool. Guests can enjoy an incomparable panoramic view of the Luangwa River. Compared to the other five villas, the family accommodation has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Children of all ages are welcome in Chinzombo on request.
Central facilities
Chinzombo's construction and use of natural resources and building materials seamlessly blends into the Luangwa River landscape. The main area consists of a semi-open dining and lounge area, a lounge with a small library and a bar. Guests can also use a large, shady veranda with sunbathing areas and a communal swimming pool. From the nearby fireplace you have a fantastic view over the river. A laundry service can be used free of charge; WiFi is also available.
Activities
Walking safaris are especially important here. These go back to Norman Carr, who for the first time made it possible for guests to explore the African bush landscape barrier-free and to gain undisturbed and thus more authentic impressions of the behaviour and lifestyle of the local wildlife. For longer bush walks you can stay overnight in one of the equally comfortable sister camps. Classic game drives in open off-road vehicles are also offered, not only during the day, but also after sunset. If you would like to get to know the water world of the region, you can also take part in boat trips on the Luangwa River. And also from the camp and your own villa unique animal observations can take place. Thus, the Luangwa and the nearby waterholes represent an important attraction for herds of different wild animals, which visit these as drinking sources.
Highlights
Chinzombo is considered the most exclusive accommodation in South Luangwa National Park. Here guests can expect pleasant seclusion in combination with a luxurious ambience. The private villas promise highest comfort with their own terrace including pool. It is not uncommon for hippos to pass by directly in front of your accommodation in the water of the Luangwa. The location of the camp directly on the Luangwa River enables you to witness spectacular wildlife sightings from your own veranda. Of course, these can also be experienced during the excellently guided excursions into the bush of the South Luangwa National Park. Also multi-day safari tours through the Luangwa Valley are possible, including walking safaris to sister camps of Chinzombo. If you want to give your body a break after an extensive exploration tour, you can pamper yourself in the spa area of the camp. Environmental and sustainability considerations always take precedence over everything else. We always apply environmentally conscious standards with regard to the construction of the camp, equipment and safari activities.
Animals
The chances of lions, leopard and hyaena sightings are generally very good in this region of the park. If you're lucky, you'll even spot the rare African wild dog. Since the Luangwa River is right on the doorstep of the camp, observations of hippos and crocodiles are almost a daily point of the agenda. Elephants, buffalos, zebras, warthogs, kudus, impalas and pukus as well as an abundance of different birds can cross your path on excursions or bush walks. Attention: Thorneycroft giraffe, Cookson wildebeest and the Crawshay zebra are endemic here, which means you can only find them in the South Luangwa National Park!
