Staying at Nkonzi Camp
Location
The seasonally open Nkonzi Camp (beginning of June to 31 October) is situated in a small forest in the middle of the South Luangwa National Park, near the Mushilashi Riverbed – far away from the ways of civilization. The main gate of the park can be reached after a 45-minute drive. Due to the wonderfully remote and therefore very exclusive location, only a handful of tourists find their way here. Wide grasslands, old forests and a fascinating fauna characterise the region which is why Nkonzi Camp is considered a true jewel.
The Camp
Guest accommodation
The Nkonzi Camp has only four rustic but very comfortable safari tents which provide a personalised, personal service and a family atmosphere. Each tent has its own open bathroom with traditional bush shower and toilet with flush water. Also a small veranda with seats as well as solar powered lighting belong to each of the tents. Nkonzi can accommodate a maximum of eight guests; children aged 6 and over are also welcome.
Central facilities
Central facilities of the camp include a communal area, an outdoor area with a fireplace and a camp bar where soft drinks, beer and selected spirits are available. The daily meals are taken together by all guests under the shade of the trees. The power supply in Nkonzi is ensured by solar energy and offers sufficient possibilities to recharge the batteries. The water is extracted from our own borehole.
Activities
Adventurous day or night game drives and walking safaris offer the opportunity to explore the depths of the spectacular South Luangwa National Park. The guests will always be accompanied by an experienced guide who will give them exciting background knowledge about the flora and fauna of the region. While the game walks begin and end in the camp, guests can drive deeper into the park and stay overnight in other camps.
Highlights
Especially due to its exclusive, secluded location, Nkonzi Camp exudes the flair of an undiscovered piece of paradise. Situated in the midst of wild and untouched nature and visited only by a few guests, an intimate and undisturbed safari experience is guaranteed here. At night an incomparable view of Africa's magnificent starry sky is released – and almost always the Milky Way can be admired. Last but not least, Nkonzi Camp impresses with excellent guided game drives and walking safaris which give guests the chance to learn more about Zambia's flora and fauna from some of the country's best guides.
Animals
The South Luangwa National Park impresses by an immense animal wealth and offers the possibility to observe wild animals at close range. On the guided game drives and hikes offered by Nkonzi Camp you can observe four of the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo – as well as wild dogs, hyaenas, hippos, various antelopes and some endemic animal species. With more than 400 bird species, South Luangwa is also an extremely attractive destination for bird lovers.
