In this course you can broaden the horseback knowledge you could gather so far on a Western ranch in British Columbia and get to know breathtaking Canada on horseback.
First of all, you need to book a flight to Vancouver International Airport. After your arrival you spend the following night in a local hotel or hostel. The next morning an Express Shuttle takes you from Vancouver to your base station: a Western ranch a few hours north of Vancouver in the midst of the untouched wilderness of southwest British Columbia. After you received lunch on the ranch you will be introduced to the field of outdoor and adventure tourism and get a horse – your companion for the following days.
You spend the following days acquiring essential skills about horse husbandry and horse care – a few days later you finally leave for your packtrip adventure for several days that leads you through forests, flower meadows, valleys and impressive mountain landscapes. The focus of your advanced training will be on horse management, wildlife identification and tracking, plant species identification and practical uses, wilderness survival skills, wilderness navigation, safety training as well as planning and leading complex wilderness trips.
After completing the course you possess the necessary knowledge and experience to be a second guide on wildlife tours, camping trips and other outdoor guest tours and work your way up to be a lead guide.
During the course you and the other participants live on a horse and guest ranch amidst the wild nature of southwest British Columbia. Here you sleep in tents on the ranch grounds. You receive three meals each day.
After a couple of days you leave for the wilderness and sleep in different wilderness camp. These can range from big canvas tents to rustic mountain huts. You and your group carry all necessary food items with you and either prepare them in one of the camps or on the way.
As the focus of this course is on your advanced horseback guide training, leisure time is quite limited. Usually you can use the evening hours for own activities, though: there is a ranch library, and you can also use deck chairs to relax in the large garden.
