To join this expedition, you must be at least 18 years old, have a good command of English, and be a confident swimmer. Requirements may vary depending on your destination and the length of your stay. For visa regulations, check your country’s foreign department website or contact the Natucate team directly.

While no specific medical conditions are required, we recommend staying attentive to health precautions. Travel insurance is mandatory for all participants. You should consult your doctor about necessary vaccinations, including Morbilli (measles), Mumps, and Rubella as well as vaccinations against Hepatitis A & B, Polio, and Tetanus. For up-to-date travel health advisories, visit your foreign department’s website and ask your doctor.

You should be comfortable and confident in the water but do not need any formal certifications like SCUBA. Safety is our top priority— the expert team monitors conditions and provides life jackets and buoyancy aids for your security.

You'll need snorkeling gear, including a mask (no full-face masks), snorkel, and fins. Proper swimwear is essential. Women should bring a long scarf or cloth to cover their skin when on land. Lightweight, comfortable clothing and open shoes (like flip-flops) are recommended. Other essentials include:
- Sunglasses
- Towels
- Reusable water bottles
- Waterproof bag
- Sunscreen
- UV-protective swim shirt
- Sun hat
- Insect repellent

While we assist in planning, you must book your own flight to Malé International Airport (Velana International Airport). Upon arrival, a representative from our partner team will meet you and escort you to the research vessel, your home for the next two weeks.

Your booking includes airport transfers on the mornings of arrival and departure. A team member of the local operator will greet you at the airport and assist with your group transfer. Meeting details will be provided in your final pre-arrival email. Transfers to the vessel take place at midday, though any schedule changes will be communicated by your Tour Leader.

You'll stay aboard the research vessel MV Felicity, a 28-meter boat with seven air-conditioned cabins, three twin & three double, each with a private bathroom. Two volunteers share a cabin, typically separated by gender. The vessel features a spacious deck with sun loungers and a communal area for dining, working, and socializing.

Mobile phones can be used, but roaming charges may be high—check with your provider before departure. Buying an international phone card at the airport or an e-SIM before arrival is often a more affordable option. Most boats do notoffer internet access, so purchasing a local 3G SIM card is recommended if you need connectivity.

You'll receive three freshly prepared meals daily, plus afternoon snacks, water, tea, and coffee. The menu features a mix of Maldivian and European dishes, with both spicy and milder options available.

Yes! Vegetarian meals can be arranged, and we do our best to accommodate dietary requirements. Please inform us of any allergies or dietary preferences in advance.

The Maldives have a warm, tropical climate with high humidity. Even at night, temperatures rarely drop below 25°C. There are two monsoon seasons:
- Northeast monsoon (November–April) – Drier weather
- Southwest monsoon (May–October) – More rain and wind

If you become ill, you will have access to a doctor and basic medication. In an emergency, our partner will arrange evacuation to a hospital in Malé. Our staff are trained to handle emergencies, and first aid kits are always available. If you feel unwell, notify your team leader as soon as possible for everyone’s safety. All medical concerns are handled with full confidentiality.

Yes. The Maldives is a Muslim country with specific cultural norms:
- Alcohol is only permitted at hotel resorts.
- Pork products are not allowed.
- Modest clothing is required—avoid revealing swimwear (bikinis, tight trunks).
- Religious symbols (except Islamic ones) on jewelry or tattoos should not be displayed.
- If visiting a mosque, ensure you are fully covered and visit outside prayer times.
- During Ramadan, do not eat, drink, or smoke in public.
- Drug laws are extremely strict.
