Safaris Botswana: Delta magic between Moremi and Mababe

Arrive at Maun Airport via Johannesburg no later than 11:30 AM on the day of your safari start. After a welcome and assistance with your luggage, you will be directed to your charter plane for the immediate onward flight into the Okavango Delta.

The onward flight, which offers magnificent views, takes about 30 to 45 minutes. You land at the small airstrip amidst the beautiful Xakanaxa region in Moremi Game Reserve where you will spend the following three nights. Your guide will pick you up from the airstrip and drive you to our partner's mobile safari camp.
You may have already spotted herds of buffalo or elephants from the air during the flight, but at the latest on the drive to camp or on the first game drive in the afternoon you will definitely witness your first exciting animal encounters.

Day 2 and 3 of your trip are set aside for exploring the Xakanaxa region in the Moremi Game Reserve. The world-famous game reserve lies in the eastern foothills of the Okavango Delta. Its landscape is characterized by flood plains, swamps, lagoons, forests, savannahs and papyrus-lined water channels. Countless wild animals and birds are at home in the green depths.

An incredibly diverse wildlife can be discovered in these picturesque natural landscapes, including huge herds of buffalo and elephant, lions, numerous antelope species and a rich birdlife. Last but not least, Moremi offers excellent conditions to see the endangered African wild dog.

On day 4 of your seven-day safari trip, you will leave the Moremi region to head further north-east. After breakfast, you will set off with your guide in an off-road vehicle to the idyllic Khwai Concession and the Mababe Conservation Area, which are also part of the mighty Okavango Delta. The drive provides ample time for game viewing and there will be a mokoro excursion in the quieter tributaries of the Khwai and Mbudi channels. Finally, for the day we drive through the forests to the Mababe Private Reserve where we camp on the banks of the Khwai River before it flows into the Mababe Depression.

The Khwai River meanders through the concession area and offers numerous riverside routes to explore. You will spend the next two nights at the Mababe Concession, an exclusive campsite that can only accommodate a maximum of 20 vehicles. Here you can explore the Khwai River and experience the abundant wildlife along the riverbanks, in the Kalahari bush to the east and in the Cathedral Mopane to the south on game drives both during the day and at night.

Particularly exciting is the opportunity to use spotlights at night to search for nocturnal animals that are rarely seen during the day. Weather permitting, there is also the opportunity to explore the surrounding wilderness on foot to experience Botswana's flora and fauna up close. Note, however, that night drives and guided walks take place outside the Moremi Game Reserve in the Mababe Private Reserve, as they are not permitted within the national parks and reserves. The safety of these activities is ensured by your guide.

Today your journey ends in Botswana's Okavango Delta. After breakfast, you will go on a game drive back to the airstrip, from where you will take a charterflight back to Maun in the morning. You can then start your journey home or onwards from Maun in the late afternoon.

Due to weather and road conditions, animal movements and other external circumstances, schedules and itineraries may be subject to change. This can affect times (departure/arrival times, duration of transfers etc.), safari activities as well as accommodation. Guests should be aware that certain transfers may take longer than indicated, that certain activities offered may be limited or that accommodation may change at short notice – however, alternative accommodation is usually similar in terms of comfort, service and location.

In addition, in some cases the locations may change and first Khwai and then Moremi will be approached. The activities, however, remain the same.
