Safari tour in the Okavango Delta
This seven-day mobile tented safari takes you on daily bush excursions through the spectacular landscapes of northern Botswana and shows you the wonders of the Okavango Delta at close quarters.
Arrival and orientation in Botswana
Fly to Maun via O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. You will arrive there by 11:30 AM on the day of the safari start at the latest. At Maun Airport you will be welcomed and given further information for your direct onward flight via charter plane to breathtaking Moremi Game Reserve. Upon arrival at the airstrip, you will be met by your guide and transferred to the mobile safari camp in the picturesque Xakanaxa region where you will spend the first three nights of your trip. Once you arrive at the camp, you can settle in before the first game drive awaits you in the late afternoon.
Activities during the safari trip
A typical safari day is characterized by one activity in the morning and one activity in the afternoon. This safari mainly involves game drives in open jeeps. In Mababe, bush walks and mokoro tours are also offered. An experienced guide accompanies each activity.
As most animals are most active in the early morning hours, you also start your day early.
After a light snack, you set off into the wilderness of Botswana at sunrise. On foot, on four wheels or by water, you will have the opportunity to discover the flora and fauna of the Okavango Delta in the company of your experienced guide. Depending on the region, elephants, leopards, wild dogs, lions, buffalos, cheetahs, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, zebras as well as a variety of antelope and bird species may cross your path.
To avoid the blazing midday heat, you return to camp in the late morning. Here you enjoy a communal lunch and gather new energy during the subsequent siesta. After some coffee, tea and snacks in the afternoon, you head out once more into the wildlife-rich expanses of Moremi and Mababe. After some more exciting animal sightings and possibly even a night drive, you return to the mobile camp, have dinner together and let the day slowly fade away in the light of the campfire.
Accommodation during the safari
Our partner's mobile safari camp, with high-walled 4x3m safari tents, will be your home for the duration of the trip. Attached to each of the tents is a 2x3m en-suite bathroom tent and a 2x3m front area. Interior facilities include high camp beds plus mattresses, sheets, bedding and pillows. The bush bathroom is equipped with bucket shower, safari-style long-drop toilet and towels. Showers can be cold, warm or hot at the guests' request.
For showering, water is heated in a bucket over the fire. As a rule, safari guests can take their showers as they wish, but in general the guide reserves the right to limit the amount of water used for showering. Petroleum lamps are provided in the bathroom and on the veranda, and there is also a rechargeable LED light in the sleeping tent. You will receive meals and selected drinks every day.
Free time as a safari guest in Botswana
After lunch, there is usually a siesta. This recreational break which lasts until early afternoon, can be used for a nap, reading or wildlife watching in front of one's own tent. Even after dinner together, there is still time that the guests can use for themselves.
