Safari Botswana: Okavango Delta on foot
Explore one of the world's greatest natural wonders on this safari trip! Situated amidst the Kalahari Desert, the Okavango Delta is a unique ecosystem whose nourishing vein is the Okavango River. It originates in the Angolan highlands and flows to Botswana, where it disappears in a labyrinth of countless lakes, lagoons, canals and islands. The biodiversity of this huge wetland biotope is spectacular: large herds of elephants and buffalos, hippos, lions, wild dogs, leopards, cheetahs, hyaenas, numerous antelope species and a species-rich bird life are at home in the unparalleled green depths.
During our six-day adventure safari in Moremi Game Reserve the incredible variety of flora and fauna that has been created by the combination of the delta's waters and the Kalahari sands can be experienced up close. Guided bush walks and mokoro tours with your professional guide will help you explore the biodiversity of Nxaraga and Xaxaba Island, two islands in the depths of the delta with an abundance of wildlife. On daily excursions you will roam the wild nature and hidden waterways, witnessing unique sightings of the Big Five and other impressive wildlife.

Island safari in the Okavango Delta
During this six-day safari trip you will explore the breathtaking islands of Botswana's Okavango Delta and have the opportunity to get closer to fascinating wildlife in a unique way.
Arrival and orientation in Botswana
First you travel to Maun airport. There you will be picked up and transferred to Nxaraga Island in the Okavango Delta by boat. After arriving at your mobile camp, you can settle in, have a refreshment and, depending on the time of arrival, explore the region on a first afternoon activity.
Activities on your boat and walking safari
A typical safari day usually consists of a morning and an afternoon activity. During this safari you will discover the landscapes by walking safari or a trip in the mokoro, a traditional dugout canoe. Both walking and mokoro tours allow you to get closer to the species-rich wilderness of the Okavango Delta in an incomparable way.
You make your way into the bush at sunrise, because most animals are particularly active at this time. Your experienced guide is always with you and helps you immerse yourself into the impressive nature of this huge natural wonder.
During bush walks and water safaris you will probably experience lots of unique wildlife sightings: Elephants, lions, buffalos, hippos, leopards, various antelope species, countless birds and many other animals live in the green depths of the Okavango Delta.
On your daily foot and water safaris, attention will be paid in particular to the small creatures of the bush, the fascinating plant life and the art of tracking. As soon as the hottest day of the day sets in and the animals seek shelter in more hidden places, you return to camp and have lunch. After a break you will leave for the wilderness in the afternoon to admire the landscapes and animals of the delta once again.
Accommodation in the Okavango Delta
For the duration of your six-day safari you will be accommodated in a mobile camp in the Okavango Delta, which will be set up on the idyllic islands of Nxaraga Island and Xaxaba Island. Here you sleep in tents and use a typical "bush bathroom" with bucket shower and long drop toilet. Mobile camps can be set up at any place in the wilderness and thus offer an intense nature experience. Meals and drinks are included during your delta safari.
Leisure time as safari guest in Africa
After you return to your camp in the morning and had lunch, you can relax until the early afternoon. After dinner you will also have time to use for yourself – enjoying a cool drink around the campfire is the typical way to end your evening in the bush.

1. Okavango Delta
The Okavango Delta in Botswana is without doubt one of the most spectacular natural sites in Southern Africa, if not in the entire world. Covering more than 20,000 km², the fertile oasis in the northwestern part of the country is the largest inland delta of our planet. The mighty UNESCO World Heritage Site is fed by the Okavango River, which once a year floods down from the highlands of Angola into an endless labyrinth of river courses, islands and lagoons. With a visit to the Delta, one of the last natural paradises on earth awaits you, whose awe-inspiring biodiversity will amaze every visitor.
Background of the island safari in Botswana
On this safari nature lovers can experience Botswana's fascinating Okavango Delta in a very special way: Mokoro rides and bush walks allow an extraordinary closeness to nature and offer the chance to meet the big representatives of the African animal world as well as exploring the very small things.
The islands of Nxaraga and Xaxaba in the Moremi Game Reserve are two magnificent natural destinations in the heart of the Okavango Delta. They offer excellent opportunities to explore the surrounding region by boat as well as on foot and to admire the diversity of species on land, in the water and in the air at close range. In particular, trips in the mokoro, the traditional dugout canoe, allow silent exploration tours on the gentle waters of the huge natural wonder – a unique way to enjoy the silence and beauty of the largest inland delta of our planet.
