Wilderness Trail in Gabon
Experience the untamed beauty of Gabon on an 8-day expedition through Loango National Park. You will discover the true wilderness on hikes, boat trips, and wildlife watching.
Arrival and orientation in Gabon
The trip starts in Libreville at around 8 a.m., from where you and your group will travel directly to Gamba on a charter flight over the rainforest. From there you will continue by motorboat to Sette Cama Camp, where you will spend your first two nights.
Note: To enter Gabon you need a visa and a yellow fever vaccination.
Activities during the expedition
During this expedition, you will embark on long hikes through the rainforest, take kayak tours from Sette Cama Camp across Gabon’s varied river systems, and encounter a host of wildlife, including forest duikers, chimpanzees, or rare birds.
You will also experience the unique 4-night Wilderness Trail, carrying all your belongings in your backpack, camping in the rainforest, and immersing yourself in this wild and remote ecosystem.
Wildlife in Loango National Park
Loango National Park is a true wildlife haven, offering the rare chance to encounter wild chimpanzees, western lowland gorillas, bush pigs, forest sitatunga, red forest duikers, and various species of monkeys. Additionally, the park offers a unique opportunity to observe forest elephants and forest buffalo right on the beach.
The region is also globally renowned for its incredible birdlife, including the white-crested heron.
Accommodation during the expedition
At the start and end of the expedition, you will stay in the rustic Sette Cama Camp, which offers comfortable twin chalets with private bathrooms. Each room features two beds, air conditioning, and Type C power sockets for charging tablets and cameras - still, bringing an international adapter is recommended. There is also a communal area with a bar and a terrace overlooking the river mouth. During the Wilderness Trail, you will camp in tents within the rainforest, giving you the chance to truly immerse yourself in the wild.
Meals during the expedition
At Sette Cama Camp you can enjoy delicious meals (three a day) in the communal area while you are in the middle of the wilderness and can watch the Ndogo estuary. Here you can relax on the terrace and enjoy the impressions of nature.
During the trail, you will carry a gas cooker, camping gear, and food in your backpacks. In between, you will take breaks and enjoy the wilderness in peace.
